As part of ongoing Analog Node experiments, we’ve ordered a pair of serial-to-TCP/IP adapters to support upcoming testing and documentation around bridging classic serial devices to modern networks.
These devices will be used to explore:
- Running serial-connected modems and systems over IP
- Remote BBS and console access via TCP/IP
- Serial device integration with modern Linux hosts
- Practical alternatives to direct serial cabling
The units ordered represent two commonly available serial-to-IP designs that frequently appear in legacy integration discussions:
- Serial to TCP/IP Adapter (AliExpress)

Once they arrive, they’ll be incorporated into informal but real-world testing alongside modems, Mini PCs, and SBC-based systems. Results and observations will feed into future HOWTOs and guides focused on keeping serial and modem-based systems usable on modern networks.
